The Pixie-bob is a unique domestic cat breed that was developed in the United States in the late 1980s. The breed was founded by Carol Ann Brewer in Washington state, who aimed to create a cat that resembled the North American bobcat but had the temperament of a domestic cat. The breed's development began when Brewer acquired a male cat with a bobbed tail and unusual markings, believed to have been sired by a bobcat. She paired this male with a local domestic female cat, and one of the resulting kittens, named Pixie, became the foundation cat for the breed. The Pixie-bob was selectively bred to enhance its bobcat-like appearance, including its short tail, tufted ears, and spotted coat. The Pixie-bob was officially recognized by The International Cat Association (TICA) in 1995. It has since gained popularity for its wild appearance and friendly, dog-like personality.
