Living conditions of animals and their protection

Image Living conditions of animals and their protection In recent months, several significant laws aimed at improving the living conditions of animals and their protection have been enacted. Here are some of the most important changes that came into effect in 2024:
  1. USA: Several states have introduced new laws to improve the conditions for domestic and wild animals. For example, Oregon, Washington, and Nevada now ban the production and sale of eggs from caged hens. In New York, a ban on the sale of dogs, cats, and rabbits in pet stores will take effect in December 2024. Additionally, enforcement of the Animal Welfare Act (AWA) has been strengthened, and funds have been allocated to support programs for domestic violence victims, allowing them to be placed together with their pets (The Humane Society of the United States) (ASPCA).
  2. Spain: The new Animal Welfare Law introduces strict rules for pet owners and bans the use of shock collars, spiked collars, and tying animals to moving vehicles. The sale of animals in pet stores is prohibited, and cats, dogs, and ferrets can now only be acquired from registered breeders or through shelters. There are also restrictions on leaving animals unattended for more than three days, with this period reduced to 24 hours for dogs (euronews).
  3. New York, USA: Legislation passed in April 2024 includes measures to protect animals, such as banning the surgical removal of vocal cords in dogs and cats and increasing penalties for animal cruelty. Landlords are now required to inspect vacated properties for abandoned animals and notify authorities within three days (Spectrum Local News).
These laws are aimed at improving animal welfare, increasing owner responsibility, and preventing cruelty and exploitation of animals. We hope these changes will lead to more humane treatment of our four-legged friends.
